Jesus said "I am the way, the truth, and the life." That is truth upon which I stand. I want to know the truth about government and I want you to know the truth. Public service is not about power or personal gain. It is about serving others with integrity, humility, and a commitment to doing what is right.
When I examine how politics is often done, I see too many soundbites designed to sound good rather than actually tell the entire story. For example, a claim is made that Arkansas ranks number one in education. The full reality is that while we may rank number one in education choice, we still rank low in other areas. For me, transparency and accountability aren't just buzzwords-they are the foundation of public trust. You deserve full transparency, and I will give you the facts straightforward.
I stand for better education and accountability for all students and taxpayers. While public education works for most, it does not work for everyone. I experienced this firsthand with my son, Jonathan, who has Down Syndrome. He had a wonderful experience in the lower grades, but high school was a different story. During my first term in the House of Representatives, Jonathan came with me to Little Rock and attended a private school for kids with special needs. There, his friends and family witnessed tremendous academic and social growth because the school treated him as though he could learn. Today, people are on both sides of the LEARNS Act and Education Freedom Accounts. I promise to listen to both sides and make decisions based entirely on the real impact on our students and schools. I believe in accountability for tax payers as well as for outcomes.
Small businesses are the heartbeat of America. We should create opportunity for entrepreneurial success and remove barriers that stand in the way. Act 510 of 2007 that created the Quick Action Closing Fund should be scrutinized and possibly amended or overturned. Economic opportunity, a strong work force, and a tax and business friendly environment need to foster economic development, not government incentives gained from hard working entrepreneurs. Small businesses should have a level playing field with the larger ones. Furthermore, crony capitalism, in the form of tax breaks, permits, or grants to specific developers or areas should be avoided. Free market should determine losers and winners, not politicians.
PBB would unify government direction, increase agency performance information to public officials and constituents, and produce a more effective budget process.
Any revenue collected over the limit will be returned to the taxpayers in some form.
Examine what we are currently doing and implement evidence based practices that work.
